The Sports Fan

<br>First thing in the morning<br>He`s staring at the ceiling<br>He notices the longing<br>And then remembers something good<br>He remembers that there`s coffee<br>And they were winning one to nothing<br>On his way he`ll get a copy<br>Of the Herald for the scores<br>At the diner he always sits at the counter<br>Just like one of the regulars<br>So he don`t seem so alone<br>Well they lost in eleven innings<br>And now they`re talking about trading<br>Still he won`t bet on them winning<br>He won`t be taken in again<br>And when the waitress comes his way<br>They talk a little more everyday<br>In his head he starts the play-by-play<br>As if he knows how it will end<br>He`s a sports fan, a sucker for the home team<br>When you win it`s for the whole team<br>When you lose you`re just one man<br>This used to be his favorite season<br>Till she left without a reason<br>Now he thinks he learned his lesson<br>Until the night time comes<br>And when the stars are hanging low<br>He`ll turn on the AM radio<br>He can get as far as Chicago<br>But the Cubs are really no escape<br>He`s a sports fan, a sucker for the home team<br>When you win it`s for the whole team<br>When you lose you`re just one man<br>And from the beginning<br>Every one taught him that winning<br>Really wasn`t everything<br>But no one told him why<br>Now he`s a sports fan<br>He`s a reluctant believer<br>Sometimes you go with the reliever<br>Sometimes you sacrifice a fly<br>He`s a sports fan, a sucker for the home team<br>When you win it`s for the whole team<br>When you lose you`re just one man<br>You take it like a man
